In October of 1996, The Undertaker suffered the misfortune of being buried alive.

Now, this would be something of a spanner in the careers of most performers, but The Undertaker isn’t most performers. A month later 'Taker was back and darker than ever. I mean, he was literally darker, as he no longer wore grey or purple gloves. All black everything my friends, all black everything.

The hair was no longer in front of the face, combed back and wet instead. It was as if 'Taker had smartened up for a job interview, but managed to look more imposing than if he’d stuck to the whole ‘Dead Wrestling Mortician’ thing he was rocking beforehand.

He also had a teardrop painted under his eye, which was gnarly as anything and really stood out.

During this run Undertaker won this second world championship, wrestled the first Hell in a Cell match and started developing the supernatural powers that we grew to love. Those powers included shooting lighting and fire. His ability to commandeer limousines would come later in life.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
