It is phrase that has been repeated to the point of becoming obsolete, but you can’t kill what is already dead. The foes of The Deadman have tried, of course, and for the odd brief moment they may have felt that they had succeeded. The first real example of this was at the 1994 Royal Rumble, when a host of baddies put The Undertaker into a casket and left him to ascend to the heavens.

Eight months later he descended back down to the purgatory we call Earth, with an aesthetic upgrade that saw him don purple gloves as opposed to grey ones. He also had to wear a Phantom of the Opera style mask at one point (after Mabel accidentally crushed his face), which only added to his aura.

The Wrestling Mortician was dead, but in its place came the embodiment of death.

This was the first true evolution of The Undertaker in what was then the World Wrestling Federation. It was an important time for him, the first true glimpse that this wasn’t like similar OTT characters in the WWF in the early 90s. This guy was here to stay.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
