WWE, some have tweeted, did just that. We need not look back further than five months to determine that this is a bit hysterical. At Survivor Series, WWE apparently killed off the entire brand as a result of RAW’s landslide win. And yet, the blue brand has since dwarfed its counterpart in terms of engaging narrative and star creation. Andrade and Rey Mysterio wrestled stupidly exhilarating TV matches totally divorced from the WWE norm in recent months. Kofi Kingston ascended from fun midcard act to deathly serious and super-over headliner. His WrestleMania 35 opponent, Daniel Bryan, has engineered an incredible heel title run loaded with exceptional segments and classic matches. Samoa Joe remains a total joy to watch. The Miz is a bloody good babyface.

For once, WWE is looking ahead to the future. WWE is using perspective. Isn’t this what we all want?

Asuka Vs. Nobody is only slightly worse than Asuka Vs. A Nobody to no reaction. WWE has time to rebuild—and, indeed, to destroy and rebuild again, once we’ve forgotten.

April 7, however, is the night on which to create a foundational image that will last (and influence) forever.
