The Rise Of AEW's Jamie Hayter

4. The WWE Interactions

While Jamie Hayter has been formally #AllElite since August of last year, the hugely talented star has crossed paths with WWE at certain points.

Back in May 2019, Hayter appeared on NXT UK, losing against Piper Niven, who can these days be found on the WWE main roster under her Doudrop moniker. Jamie's next interactions of note with WWE came about in 2021, where the star was invited to attend a tryout.

As the Brit told WhatCulture earlier this year, any of her involvement with WWE came at times where her main focus was on continuing to perform in Japan. Regardless, the star attended a WWE tryout solely for the experience that comes with that, and there's obviously always the possibility of never knowing what opportunities may arise from such situations.

In fact, that 2021 tryout forced Hayter to vacate the RevPro British Women's Champion, which was her second run with that prize. Having already made two appearances on AEW Dynamite towards the end of 2019 - losing to Britt Baker, then teaming with Emi Sakura to best Riho and Shanna - the whole uncertainty and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic meant that it wasn't until the 13 August 2021 episode of AEW Rampage when Jamie became a full-time part of the AEW roster, coming to Baker's side after the Roll Model had defended the AEW Women's Title against Red Velvet.

Whether WWE or Jamie Hayter had any serious interest in each other or not, her work in STARDOM and subsequent work in AEW clearly worked in the talent's favour, as she now finds herself as one of the most talked about grapplers on the planet.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010. In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
