The Rock: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
18. Southland Tales (2006)
Though it's hard to deny that Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko follow-up was a disappointment following on from one of the biggest cult movies of the 21st century (so far), it's still a film with a fascinatingly nutty vision, and that should certainly be lauded (to an extent).
While it doesn't make a lick of sense without some deep dive analysis, there's still an entertaining quality to the film's sheer peculiarity, essentially resulting in Johnson's single foray into anything approaching art-house cinema to date.
Plus, Johnson gets to utter the immortal line, "I'm a pimp...and pimps don't commit suicide", and somehow makes it sound not completely laughable, which is nothing if not a victory. It's easy to see why people love and hate it, but above all else, it's a ferocious original.
