The Rock: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best
14. Hercules (2014)
There are very few actors who could convincingly play Hercules, and it's fair to say that The Rock was an absolute casting marvel in Brett Ratner's surprisingly enjoyable blockbuster.
Hercules isn't especially clever, but it is smart enough to reinvent the Hercules myth in a self-aware way, debating the popular mythologised conception of the character within the movie itself, resulting in many moments both epic and hilarious.
Johnson is a real blast here and obviously nails the action sequences, but Ian McShane isn't far behind as highly amusing prophet Amphiaraus. Low expectations ahead of release certainly helped this one score solid three-star reviews from most critics, but still, a win's most certainly a win, even if the film never really found the audience MGM was counting on for a franchise.
