The Rock: His 10 Best WWE Moments

7. The Rock Finally Beats Austin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ke5ybNgkWQ At both WrestleMania XV and WrestleMania X7 The Rock had lost out to Austin in an important WWF Championship match. By the time of WrestleMania XIX they were both past their prime, out of the title picture and only working sporadically. It was evident that the pair would have to make their leave soon, or risk damaging their reputations. Austin was the first to retire €“ Rock left one month later after losing to Goldberg at Backlash to enter semi-retirement €“ and he decided to go out by facing his in-ring nemesis, The Rock. The pair had battled throughout their careers, from when they were just mid-carders fighting for the Intercontinental Title to their epic encounters for the WWF Championship and the hearts of the crowd. It€™s rare that two superstars of their calibre come at the same time and at WrestleMania in 2003 Austin made his farewell. The bout was billed around whether The Rock would finally be able to beat Austin, and after three Rock Bottoms he eventually got the three count. It was an emotional moment. Even Rock had a tear in his eye as he walked up the ramp, pointing and clapping towards the man in the ring. Their time had come and it was left to a new generation to carry the company €“ something many would argue that failed to do.
