The Street Profits defeated DIY's Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa to become brand new WWE Tag-Team Champions on a scorching night in Barcelona for SmackDown. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins raised those belts high above their heads as the show went off the air, and they join the list of fresh WWE champions over a busy few weeks for the company's trophy cabinets.

Most watching could sense something was incoming once it became clear that Profits vs. DIY was going on last in Spain, but there were still some surprised looks in the live crowd. It's always nice to see a title change when WWE comes to your city, and this was a solid way to kick off the promotion's pre-WrestleMania 41 European tour.

Gargano accidentally nailed Ciampa with an errant superkick right before The Profits put him down for the three count, so that's also something worth keeping an eye on. A multi-team match of some sort (maybe involving ladders?) is surely on the cards for 'Mania, but Gargano and Ciampa could well go their separate ways yet again after that.

Profits defending vs. DIY, Pretty Deadly, Los Garza and the Motor City Machine Guns sounds like a thrill ride for Las Vegas though. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley would enjoy bringing some of their old TNA X Division antics to the grandest stage. That daredevil platform would feel like a real reward for often-overlooked squads like Deadly and Garza as well.

First Time In 4 Years Profits Have Been Champs

Profits duo Ford and Dawkins have held tag titles on Raw, SmackDown and NXT in the past, but some might be shocked to learn that this current reign marks the first time in a solid four years that they've had belts around their waists. The pair's last title run before this one was an unremarkable 88-day stretch as SmackDown Tag Champs that ended on 8 January 2021.

Technically, the run had gone on for longer than that; The Street Profits and Raw incumbents The New Day switched brands, so WWE had them switch straps too. For reference, Ford and Dawks had held the Raw versions since 2 March 2020 before working the changeover gimmick. Even so, not many will recall much about their time on top of the SmackDown heap before dropping the titles to Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.

It's been a lean four year period for the tandem then. They looked likely to work a heartbreaking WWE split until top brass changed their minds on that, and a faction with Bobby Lashley and B-FAB ultimately went nowhere. The Profits endured, survived, and now they've thrived. Another title change could be on tap for 'Mania, but Montez and Angelo have those belts for now.

For now!
