WWE: Top 10 Kings Of The Ring

9. Hunter Hearst Helmsley

It was 1996, and The Connecticut Blue Blood was slowly rising through the ranks of the WWF. He had feuded with blue-collar gimmicks like Duke "The Dumpster" Droese and Henry O. Godwinn, and was squashed by a returning Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania XII. For his company loyalty, impressive work ethic, and the influence of his friends in the business- WWF Champion Shawn Michaels, former champion Kevin "Diesel" Nash, and Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall, collectively known backstage as The Cliq- Hunter was set to win the '96 King of the Ring tournament. Unfortunately, a little thing known as the "Curtain Call" happened, and- with Hall and Nash leaving and Michaels carrying the floudering company on his shoulders as champion- Helmsley received the brunt of Vice McMahon's punishment. Gone was the push, gone was the King of the Ring, and instead Helmsley had to wait a year to wear the crown. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3xx4i_kotr-97-final-mankind-vs-hhh-w-chyn_sport In 1997, back in line for a push, and- with more than a little help from his bodyguard, Chyna- Hunter defeated Ahmed Johnson in the semi-finals, and Mankind in the finals to win that year's King of the Ring. HHH and Foley would feud throughout the summer, before he began teaming with Shawn Michaels. It was during his reign as WWF royalty that Hunter would become known as Triple-H, and D-Generation X was born. He won the European Championship in December of that year, before ultimately winning the first of 13 World and WWF/E Championships in August of 1999, just two years, one month, and 26 days after his King of the Ring victory.
