Primarily known as a tag-team wrestler at this point in his WWF career- along with his "brother" Christian- Edge used the 2001 King of the Ring as his jump into singles competition. Edge defeated Rhyno in the semi-finals, and the 2000 King of the Ring winner Kurt Angle to win the crown, er, trophy. Christian, showing struggling signs of pride as well as growing jealousy for "King Edge The Awesome," eventually turned on his brother, and the two feuded over the Intercontinental Championship, which Edge won at 2001's SummerSlam from Lance Storm. Edge won the brotherly feud, the title, and would add the WCW United States Title to his collection, a title he unified with the Intercontinental Championship after defeating Test at 2001's Survivor Series. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mabICstHhpY Edge was such an accomplished wrestler both before and after winning the King of the Ring, the tournament victory is rarely mentioned high on the list of his career accolades. Before winning the trophy, Edge had already won seven Tag Team Titles and one Intercontinental Championship. After King Edge's "Era of Awesomeness" began, he would add seven more tag team title reigns, four more Intercontinental Championships, 11 World and WWE Championship reigns, Money in the Bank, the Royal Rumble, and- in 2012- was named to the WWE Hall of Fame.
