The Undertaker’s 10 Best WWE SmackDown Matches

8. Vs. JBL - SmackDown (16 June 2005)

'The Deadman's No Disqualification match with JBL on SmackDown is a classic example of how leaving the storyline behind can bring out the best in the ring. Despite the fact that the pair had one of 2004's most entertaining feuds, the chemistry didn't really follow them between the ropes as JBL had been portrayed as a dull heel champion who was willing to do whatever it took to escape, while The Undertaker just wanted blood (and gold). However, this was not the case during their 2005 battle.

In a physical contest, both men collided in an attempt to find out which of the two really was SmackDown's top star. It was nothing short of a smash-mouth fight with plenty of back-and-forth action, including some killer big boot exchanges, hard-hitting strikes and a ring-shaking Superplex. As both fighters would literally stop at nothing trying to one-up each other, they produced a highly-entertaining match with plenty of drama and near-falls that was more than worthy of main-eventing SmackDown.

In the end, JBL stole the victory after Randy Orton interfered, but this cheap ending complemented the unpredictability of the No DQ stipulation. Though this match (and its ending) would be recycled a few weeks later to produce another fun outing, it didn't come close to reaching the surprisingly great levels of this one.
