Just as he had when beating RVD at Vengeance 2001, The Undertaker made Jeff Hardy look like a megastar on the 1 July 2002 edition of Raw. Even though it was a ladder match for the Undisputed Title, this could easily have been throwaway or disappointing had 'Taker dominated. He didn't, at least not for the full duration.

Hardy came out of the match looking like a bigger deal than he was before it, which is surely the point of any match between young buck and cagey veteran. Jeff bumped around like crazy for Undertaker, but also had his own moments on top that sold just how well-suited he was to ladder matches; the story told was one of familiarity with ladders against general in-ring experience.

Undertaker couldn't have done more to put Hardy over. After eventually winning, the reigning champion even shared a handshake with the young daredevil. The story was clear: Jeff had earned 'Taker's respect by hanging in there. In the process, he also earned the respect of fans.
