Kane was dead, and then he wasn't. The tale of this particular tape begins when Undertaker launched a fireball into the face of his former manager Paul Bearer, who had been attempting to help him. On his return, Bearer threatened to reveal Taker's deepest secret which he claimed bared resemblance to the burns on his face. Taker continued to refuse to reconcile with his former manager which forced Bearer to torment Taker by telling him that his long-lost brother Kane was still alive and coming to the WWF. Bearer would go on to imply Taker had actually killed his family by starting a fire at their funeral home. The story goes that Kane survived the fire but was left physically and mentally scared by the event. This would lead to Taker claiming Kane, who was allegedly a pyromaniac as a child, was the one to start the fire and that he couldn't have survived. However, Taker would reveal this was a lie and turned heel, starting to portray the gimmick we saw him as the leader of the Ministry of Darkness. Kane would debut at Badd Blood: In Your House in October 1997, interfering and using The Undertaker's Tombstone pile driver to cost him the victory in the first Hell in a Cell match with Shawn Michaels.
