The Undertaker's WWE SummerSlam Matches Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Vs. Bret Hart - SummerSlam 1997
The Undertaker main-evented his second SummerSlam in 1997 when he defended his WWE Championship against Bret Hart and, well, let's just say that it was a vast improvement over his previous show-closer.
In the height of his 'Lord of Darkness' persona, he was completely free of the shackles that came with his original gimmick and this ultimately allowed him and Bret to put on an absolute cracker of a main event in New Jersey.
From Bret's desperate attempts to cut down the mighty Undertaker to Shawn Michaels' inclusion as the special guest referee, the match was enriched with real storytelling which only got better as the action told its own story at the same time. The fact that it was incredibly heavy on Bret action highlighted that as, no matter what the 'Hitman' did, he couldn't take the Sharpshooter-breaking 'Phenom' down. The real irony lay in the fact that, in the end, he wasn't the one who pulled it off.
A long hard-fought classic, and undoubtedly one of the best main events in SummerSlam history.
