The WrestleMania 33 Awards!
9. Mick Foley Award For Needless Risk Taking: Jeff Hardy
Most aging superstars making a long-awaited return have to do little more than go through their best-loved spots and pose a bit to draw rapturous approval from an excited crowd. Jeff Hardy is no different. Unfortunately for him, his most best-loved spots are suicidal.
It's hard to decide where the greatest point of tension lied. Was it the worry that Jeff might not complete his rotation in time? Was it the eminent possibility of the over-sized, imbalanced ladder toppling over before he performed the move? Or maybe it was just the concept of a near forty-year old performing a somersault through metal.
Whatever it was, many kittens were had. It was totally unnecessary, totally reckless, but also, totally great.
Runner-up: The Undertaker
There were quite a few old chaps taking rather hefty bumps on this show, each of them inducing some worried winces in this author, but the sight of a 52-year old in dire need of hip replacement surgery being smashed through a table was the most cringey. Still, if you're going to get a new one, suppose it doesn't really matter too much.
