The WWE SummerSlam 2016 Card Fans Wanted (But Didn't Get)

For one year, The New Day has dominated tag team wrestling under the WWE umbrella. They have beaten every team that has stepped up to challenge them and in the process, become one of the hottest acts in the sport.

Meanwhile, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan have risen to popularity in NXT, developing tag team chemistry and continuity that earned them fans and, eventually, their one and only reign with the NXT Tag Team Championship.

Now members of the SmackDown roster, the former collegiate wrestlers are being primed for a gigantic push that will ultimately culminate with their ascension to whatever tag titles the blue brand creates from scratch.

The dream match pitting New Day against American Alpha is no longer a possibility thanks to their placement on separate brands. What could have been the hottest tag match in years is but a fantasy, destined to go down in history as the company's greatest tag team "what if?".

That is, until WWE breaks its own rules and brings them together a few months down the road, as it is prone to doing.
