This Week in WWE: AJ Lee Takes Crazy To A New Level
Interview of the week: Bret Hart on Aftermath http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7CzHzUynOs The final part of a engrossing interview with WWE hall of famer Bret Hart was uploaded yesterday by host Arda Ocal. Throughout the interview, Bret talks about the importance of Roddy Piper putting him over at Wrestlemania VIII when lots of other big stars weren't willing to pass on the torch, how his match with Mr Perfect at Summerslam in 1991 helped to change the scope of WWE's style of wrestling with the emphasis shifting to engrossing grappling as opposed to musclebound tussling and how Ric Flair deliberately sabotaged their matches together after he defeated the Nature Boy for his first WWE championship in November 1992. He goes on to discuss how Vince was always looking for his next big megastar after the departure of Hogan but was forced to keep handing the belt back to Bret when guys like Nash, Vicious and Shawn Michaels failed to draw ratings in the spotlight and how he then helped elevate Austin to main event status during their rivalry. Bret is Bret so there is some needless arrogance thrown in at certain parts of the conversation but you are still unlikely to find a more articulate and thoughtful talker on the business and the host does his job well in just asking the questions and letting Bret speak his mind for lengthy periods of time. This week in WWE history: 5 Years Ago: A draft show special on Raw ended with Vince McMahon being blown up in a limousine in a ridiculous angle that was followed up on Smackdown by susperstars sharing their memories of Mr McMahon in stupid, time wasting segments. The storyline was scrapped shortly afterwards following the very real tragedy involving Chris Benoit. 10 Years Ago: Raw saw Shawn Michaels superkicking Booker T out of the NWO, the Hardy Boyz attacking Undertaker with a ladder and Vince McMahon pinning Ric Flair to earn 100% ownership of the WWE. On Smackdown, Undertaker received more punishment at the hands of Triple H and his sledgehammer as Hunter and Hogan defeated Taker and Angle in a main event tag match. 15 Years Ago: On Raw, Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Brian Pillman in a No DQ match and the Nation of Dominaton members Farooq and Kama defeated The Undertaker and Ahmed Johnson in a main event tag match. Believe it or not, this edition of Raw actually saw the start of the wwe tag team tournament quarter finals. We're lucky these days to even get a proper number one contenders tag team titles match. Meanwhile over on Nitro, Dennis Rodman and Hogan called out Luger and Giant, their two opponents scheduled for the Bash at the Beach PPV. The pair finally emerged and a brawl broke out which resulted in Hogan and Giant laying out both men and spraying them with paint along with the other members of the NWO. Nitro dropped slightly from the previous week to record a 3.3 rating in the war as Raw improved to offer up a 2.4.
