TNA Reportedly Trying To Sign Rey Mysterio
They're promising Rey a lot, but is he more likely to sign with someone else?
TNA Wresting is trying to sign Rey Mysterio Jr. according to a report in the latest Wresting Observer Newsletter. It was noted that they made a huge offer to Mysterio in the last week, but it appears as though he's more likely to sign with Lucha Underground (although nothing is official in that regard). Mysterio had discussions with TNA President Dixie Carter and Executive Vice President of TNA Wrestling John Gaburick, who was a long time WWE employee that likely knows Mysterio well. According to the report, they sold Rey on the idea that they could get his merchandise into all the stores, open up the possibilities of movies and television to him and build around him as a Mexican star. They also apparently told him that he could work anywhere he wanted on his off days, which probably just means indies in the US and Mexico rather than other television shows. It sounds like they are pitching a lot to him, but when could TNA get talents movie and TV roles? Some of them, like Kurt Angle, can get indie roles because of their names, but it's not like TNA has those kinds of connections or a history of doing that stuff. Since leaving WWE last year, he hasn't worked on television although he has worked plenty of indy shows in the US and Mexico. As a guy that was on TV regularly for 20 years in ECW, WCW and WWE, he's still a big name even though his bad knees have slowed him down. Signing with Lucha Underground is very possible for Rey and they seem to pay talent well since Alberto Del Rio makes $500,000 per year. They are clearly the better fit for Rey based on their style, but you never know in the wresting business.
