Triple H: 5 Awesome Matches And 5 That Sucked

1. Triple H Vs Randy Orton - WWE Title Match, Wrestlemania 25

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qpf03gMqbc0 Triple H has always had an obsession with Randy Orton. He originally hand picked the young Orton as his protege for Evolution, and Randy was originally meant to have Batista's Wrestlemania 21 spot. WWE blew that by pulling the trigger on the Hunter Orton feud way too soon. They stupidly assumed that Hunter and Orton were interesting enough to sustain a feud over Eight months - they were wrong, and Batista got the gig instead. Fast forward to Wrestlemania 25 and WWE decided to try with Hunter and Orton once again. The story would be that of a personal feud, Randy had punted The Game's father in law Vince McMahon. It was revealed that Orton had some kind of mental issue, and he went on to DDT Hunter's wife Stephanie. Tension was at fever pitch. Triple H smashed up Orton's house (with Mrs Orton inside) and it looked like it was all set up for an absolute war at Mania. Surely a personal feud of this magnitude would need to be settled in a brutal no disqualification match, surely both men would be wanting to kill each other? No. The stipulation was that Champion HHH could not get disqualified or he would lose the championship. This would be a straight up wrestling match. It was ridiculous, how could the company spend weeks building up all that bad blood just for a match handicapped by rules? It didn't work, and sank on the night in a sea of silence. The fact that Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker had preceded the title match didn't help matters - the crowd was drained, there would be no topping the Michaels Taker effort. Orton and Hunter trudged through the motions, giving the crowd one of the dullest Mania main events in history. And the second dullest was probably Hunter's Mania X8 match. On balance though, I will say this. Triple H is a great worker, one of the best of all time. He has had peaks and troughs, but overall his portfolio of excellent performances is enough to convince me of his stature within the industry.
