Triple H Is "Not A Fan" Of Money In The Bank (WWE News)
WWE boss Triple H's comments spell doom for that Money In The Bank briefcase concept.
A new report from WrestleVotes Radio (available via the Sportskeeda WrestleBinge YouTube channel) suggests that Money In The Bank's future as an ongoing WWE concern could be in danger. Company figurehead Triple H is reportedly no fan of the briefcase concept that started 20 years ago back in 2005.
WWE first introduced MITB at WrestleMania 21. The gimmick bout proved to be so popular that writers pitched a fully-fledged, standalone pay-per-view event. Then-boss Vince McMahon liked that idea, so Money In The Bank became a show concept in 2010. Since then, the annual series has expanded to crown both male and female briefcase winners, thus theoretically opening up all sorts of directions creatively.
'The Game' is sick and tired of it.
The interesting thing here is that WWE has already committed to promoting a 2025 version, and it just so happens to be next on WWE's PLE schedule. MITB 2025 takes place on 7 June, and qualifiers for both titular ladder bouts have been taking place across top TV shows like Raw and SmackDown in recent weeks.
Opinion: Money In The Bank Does Limit WWE Creatively
It's easy to see Triple H's point here.
Sure, MITB is a guaranteed star-maker, but it also corners WWE creatively. 2024's winners were Drew McIntyre and Tiffany Stratton, for example; Drew cashed in almost instantly to thrust himself into the World Title mix, but wouldn't leave with the belt. It was pretty clear that WWE just wanted to get the thing he'd just won off the big Scot as soon as possible so everyone could move on.
Meanwhile, Stratton's own Women's Title success seemed certain and only a matter of waiting it out for the right moment. Therein lies one of the key problems with this "unpredictable" gimmick. It's become rather predictable. An obvious death knell for anything that's supposed to be presented as spontaneous and random.
One solution could be shelving Money In The Bank for a few years so it becomes fresh again. Another is abandoning it completely in favour of more traditional pushes. It certainly doesn't sound like the twin briefcase concept has a bright future ahead of it if Triple H isn't on board. He's one of WWE's top creative influencers, after all.
Could 2025 be the final version of this iconic gimmick?
