Triple H Reveals How Successful NXT TakeOver: Portland Was

How did the latest TakeOver do in terms of actual business?

NXT TakeOver Portland

Triple H said during his latest media conference call (recorded almost immediately after the show) that NXT TakeOver: Portland was WWE's most successful show in that area since 2008.

That year's No Mercy pay-per-view drew 9,527 fans and was headlined by Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels in a memorable, hard-hitting World Title Ladder bout. Before that, WWE hosted Unforgiven 2004 in the same venue in front of approx 10,000 fans; that show's main event saw Triple H defeat Randy Orton to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

According to Trips, NXT did better than both, and he knows why.

WWE ran NXT TakeOver solo on Sunday night. It wasn't part of some big weekend that included another pay-per-view and episodes of Raw and SmackDown in the same city. This time, NXT took centre stage and was the sole reason for WWE's visit to Oregon.

Triple H believes this is a testament to how popular the NXT brand has become. He pointed out that NXT has sometimes been held back by kicking off a long stretch of shows for the company, and he paid tribute to the roster for making TakeOver: Portland such a success.
