Triple H's 10 Most Notorious Urban Legends

4. He Refused To Put Over Booker T At WrestleMania 19

Story: Triple H was the heel World Champion on the Raw brand heading into WrestleMania 19 in 2003. Booker T was a babyface challenger that was on the rise. Even though he was a WCW World Heavyweight Champion (a title he also won in WWE), he wasn't in a spot where fans considered him a main event level performer. Booker's match with Triple H at WrestleMania 19 wasn't a main event match although it was for one of WWE's two major titles. We were used to seeing babyfaces challenges heels for major titles at WrestleMania and when that happens it usually meant that a babyface won. Prior to the match, Triple H was doing promos about how "somebody like you" (in reference to Booker) wasn't going to beat him. Some people took it to be racist although it could also be believed that he was just saying Booker wasn't good enough to beat him. Hunter ended up winning the match clean. Why People Believe It: As mentioned earlier, Hunter had the kind of power to change finishes if he wanted so there are those that believe that if he didn't want to put over Booker then he was able to get out of it. Should We Believe It: No. The World Title wasn't even a year old in WWE at that point, so WWE wanted to give Triple H a long run to establish him as a dominant champion. They also wanted Hunter to have a long title reign so that when he lost it to Goldberg later in the year it would mean something when somebody beat Hunter. It makes sense because of the storyline although Hunter's haters will probably always believe that he refused to put Booker over.
