UFC Fight Island: 7 Underrated Matchups Still To Come You WON'T Want To Miss!
1. Deiveson Figueiredo Vs. Joseph Benavidez 2 - Flyweight Championship
In the fourth and final championship fight on Yas Island this month, the UFC looks to finally crown the new top-dog of the flyweight division. For the second-time this year, Joseph Benavidez and Deiveson Figueiredo will meet for the 125lbs belt. Hopefully this time one of the contenders will leave the Octagon with the belt around their waist.
The vacated championship was on the line in their first fight back in February but disappointingly Figueiredo missed weight. This meant when he put Benavidez away early, the Brazilian was unable to reap the rewards a successful weight cut would have brought him. In the bout, a controversial clash of heads saw Figueiredo take advantage on the stunned Benavidez, with a fairly brutal finish to the fight setting up a rematch five months later.
With a chance at redemption, the pair will take the center of the Octagon for a second time, hoping to determine the UFC's top-active flyweight. In a rather worrying development, the Soure-born knockout artist appeared to test positive for Covid-19 last week. His manager admitted his client had contracted the disease a number of months ago, but thankfully a negative test the next day suggests a false-positive. Figueiredo will fly out to Abu Dhabi and hopefully pass the remaining tests, successfully cut the remaining 10 pounds required, and stand opposite Benavidez once more.
