The Undertaker: 10 Landmark Firsts In His WWE Career

6. He Fought In His First Casket Match (Coffin Match) At Survivor Series 1992 Against Kamala

The first ever Casket Match took place at Survivor Series 1992 as Undertaker, in a babyface role, faced off with Kamala. They actually billed it as a "Coffin Match" the first time it happened, but it was basically what we came to know as a Casket Match. There was a Coffin Match done by Dusty Rhodes and Ivan Koloff in the 1970s, but this was the first one done in WWE. The Casket Match became a signature of Undertaker. He usually won them and if he lost it was never clean. It was WWE's way of either ending a feud for him or creating a new one by having somebody randomly attack him. There have been Casket Matches involving other wrestlers like the one between Triple H and Kane on Raw in October 2002, but it's generally considered a specialty match for Undertaker. He made it famous. That's who fans will always associate it with. When he finally does retire we may never see it again. This first one with Kamala was a dominant win by Undertaker and it was also hilarious to watch as Kamala freaked out any time he got near the casket.
