The Undertaker: 10 Landmark Firsts In His WWE Career

5. He Fought His First Buried Alive Match Against Mankind In 1996 - Buried Alive

The Buried Alive Match is a match type that Undertaker made famous. The first one took place in October 1996 at the appropriately named "In Your House: Buried Alive" event against his rival Mankind. Undertaker won the match, which was set up where you had to beat your opponent down so much that you had to place him into a pit of dirt and bury him in it. In that first match, Undertaker got the win, but then he was attacked by The Executioner and other heels who helped Mankind bury him in it before the night ended with Undertaker's hand popping up to end the show. It's just one of the gimmick matches that fans will always associate with him because it fit his character so well and nobody else compares to him in that way. There have been five Buried Alive matches and all of them featured The Undertaker. €œHe€™s alive! The Undertaker is alive! The Undertaker lives!€ €“ That's was Vince McMahon's over the top line on commentary to end that night.
