Update On AEW's Working Relationship With The NWA
We we expect more AEW/NWA collaborations in the future?
Answering a question from ComicBook.com's Connor Casey during today's All Out 2020 media conference call, AEW President Tony Khan stated that besides Thunder Rosa, his company isn't talking to the NWA about using more of their wrestlers going forward.
Rosa, the reigning NWA Women's Champion, faces her AEW counterpart Hikaru Shida at All Out this Saturday. Last night saw her make her in-ring debut against Serena Deeb, whom she defeated in one of Dynamite's biggest highlights.
Khan stated that the AEW/NWA working agreement is "the extent of a good personal relationship between [NWA owner] Billy Corgan and [Khan]." He added that he has known the Smashing Pumpkins frontman for years, having been introduced to him long before getting into the wrestling business, calling him a "nice guy" for whom he has a lot of respect.
Despite this, Khan stated that he wasn't sure what the future would hold as far as future crossovers go, noting that Thunder Rosa defeating Shida could open the door for further collaboration.
The NWA is currently on ice, having ceased content production when executive Dave Lagana was implicated through the #SpeakingOut movement. It is expected that the group will start getting back on its feet soon, though.
