Update On When John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar Could Happen (WWE News)
WWE only has a limited window to make John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar reality.
John Cena acknowledged Brock Lesnar's return attack at SummerSlam 2025 on this week's episode of SmackDown, and told the controversial comeback man: "If you want some, come get some". That familiar line has been used to set up countless Cena matches in the past, and it looks like WWE fancy deploying it again - maybe for the last time.
After all, Cena noted that he only has 11 more dates left on his retirement tour after Friday's TV. There, he teamed with Cody Rhodes to face Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre in a blockbuster main event tag. The bout ended via DQ when Paul hit a low blow on John, then McIntyre caved Cody's skull in with a Claymore Kick through the side of the (newly robust) announce desk.
Earlier, Cena and Paul lined up a match in France at Clash In Paris on 31 August. It seems unlikely that Brock will jet over to Europe and show face there, so fans could be playing the waiting game on a match between the pair. However, as John himself said, there isn't actually too much time to play with here, so WWE will have to get shifting soon enough.
In theory, they've only got 2 more top PLEs to make Cena vs. Brock a reality.
The first of those is Crown Jewel on 11 October. There's no PLE scheduled for September at time of writing, and it'd certainly be bold to pop one in last-minute now. So, WWE's jaunt to Perth, Australia in a few months could be the perfect opportunity to make Cena vs. Lesnar happen for the final time.
Survivor Series Is Also A Possibility
The alternative (and last possible chance) would be Survivor Series on 29 November. That's on tap to be John's last top show as a WWE star before hanging up his jorts for good, and it seems to be the most likely host site for such a mega-match. The creative team could even weave the show's title in with Cena's bid to survive Brock's onslaught.
Of course, WWE might normally wait it out until Royal Rumble or WrestleMania and argue that this match is too big for most other shows, but...they don't have that luxury. Cena won't be around for those. He's calling it a career at the end of 2025, and he'll have waved goodbye to the audience by the time 2026's first few PLEs take place.
Crown Jewel in Australia or Survivor Series in San Diego, California's Petco Park. Triple H has a choice to make, and it's a big one. Naturally, both Cena and Brock will get to have a say in things, and Hunter might already have plans in place for John come Crown Jewel anyway.
It's kinda sad to realise that Cena only has a maximum of 3 PLE appearances ahead of him before retiring.
