Vince Russo's 10 Biggest “What If” Moments In WWE History

2. What If Eric Bischoff Hired Vince Russo When He First Called WCW?

This is a biggie! I€™ve talked about this in the past, but I€™m not sure how many people know this story. As WCW was starting to take off with an attitude of their own, and the WWE was floundering with the likes of Mantaur and Who---yeah, exactly€”WHO€”I was able to make contact with Eric Bischoff through some friends at WCW. Off of their request, Eric himself called me---I believe it was one night after NITRO. During the course of that conversation, I was so down on the WWE at the time, that I was clearly looking to land a job with the then €œedgier€ company. Keep in mind; this is all PRIOR to the Attitude Era, and PRIOR to Vince more, or less, naming me the head writer of his company. At the end of that conversation Eric told me that he would get back to me---but, he never did. The next day I had a meeting with Linda McMahon€”who was my boss at the time€”overcome with guilt as I told her that I just wanted to contribute more to the company. Vince soon walked into her office€”I put my deepest concerns, wishes and desires out there to the both of them. The following week Vince €œmade a change€. I was in, everybody else was out. The Attitude Era began shortly after that. What if Eric would have called back? What if I would have went to go work at WCW at that time? Would there have ever even been an Attitude Era? Honestly? I don€™t believe so€”not with the crew that Vince had charging his creative at the time. If I wasn€™t there, I have no idea who he would have turned to, if anybody! I truly believe that the product would have remained what it was, and perhaps the WWE would have never been able to take back what was theirs from WCW. Just my opinion.
