Vince Russo's 10 Reasons WWE Will Never Be Great Again

4. The Product Needs To Evolve

When I went to WCW in 1999, we were trying to figure out how to evolve the wrestling business beyond the Attitude Era. Unfortunately, politics prevented me from ever getting there. However, since then, with the growth of €œreality TV€, rather than follow the trend, the wrestling business decided to go another way . . . . backwards. Whereas television in evolving on a day-to-day basis, the wrestling business is still finding a way to digress. The internet blew the lid off of the wrestling business two decades ago. They exposed everything that anybody wanted to know. Kay-fabe was dead. After the Attitude Era, there is no question in my mind that the viewer at that point wanted to understand what was the €œbusiness behind the business€. What was the actual reality behind what they were watching. Wrestling has never gone there, and never will simply because they are afraid of the unknown. What will happen if it €œdoesn€™t work€? My question: Is what you are doing now WORKING? In order to evolve you must take risks and chances, any great leader, or business man, will tell you that. If you fail to---you will die a slow death much like the dinosaur that you are.
