Then:

'The Macho Man' is one of wrestling's legendary wildmen, and on the debut episode of Nitro he didn't disappoint. Responding to Scott Norton's challenge with fury and guttural gibberish that only Savage could make compelling. Set on fighting there and then unsanctioned, security soon convinced him to settle for a match on next week's Nitro.

After:

Just months after the inaugural episode of Nitro, Savage won his first WCW World Heavyweight Championship at World War 3 (1995) surviving the titular match. He would hold the title a further three times. Savage swiftly vanished from TV in the year before WCW folded.

In 2004, Savage briefly returned to wrestling appearing on TNA's Victory Road pay-per-view. However, booking disputes led to his departure less than a month into his time with the promotion.

Savage sadly passed away on 20th May 2011 suffering a sudden heart attack while driving. He was posthumously inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame (Class of 2015).
