What 10 WWE Comebacks Would Look Like

6. Rey Mysterio

Rey was one of WWE’s most popular babyfaces and one of their biggest merchandise movers during his initial run. While the hardcore fans waffled on whether or not they approved of him, families and children continue to flock to indie shows to this day to cheer him on. It’s unclear when and if Mysterio can make a comeback, as he’s currently signed to Lucha Underground, which keeps performers to themselves until all episodes of a season air.

However, assuming that issue is cleared up and both sides are up for it, Rey would return to utter joy and adulation. Even the hardcore fans who booed him at events such as Royal Rumble 2014 would be happy to see him out of nostalgia and respect for what he’s done in LU. One might think that he would be used to elevate WWE’s cruiserweight division and draw interest to the flagging 205 Live program.

There are certain cruiserweights that the company see as “above” that division, and Rey is one of them, as evidenced by his multiple world title runs. It’s likely that Rey would be lumped with the main roster on RAW or SmackDown. He wouldn’t receive a main event push, as his poor knees have sapped him of his physical gifts, but it’s safe to say WWE would keep him in a prominent spot. He’d likely get the pins in tag matches with the 619/West Coast Pop combination to send the audience home happy. He’d move merchandise, be a hero to the kids, and just generally be a solid hand.

And, of course, if WWE were interested in him competing as a cruiserweight, there’s no doubt he’d be in a program with Neville or another top heel such as Noam Dar, giving them the rub.
