What If WWE WrestleMania Was Always 2 Nights?
14. WrestleMania 22
WrestleMania 22 has a few matches that were noteworthy, such as Edge and Mick Foley's hardcore match, Mickie James beating Trish Stratus for the women's title, and Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. McMahon in their No Holds Barred match.
However, to play opposite John Cena retaining the WWE Championship over Triple H, there's another world title match that features not only Kurt Angle and Randy Orton, but the Royal Rumble winner, Rey Mysterio.
There's always a case to be made that every year, the Royal Rumble winner should main event, as that is essentially the point. But as long as they're given a World title match, that's what they are technically winning—not securing the final spot on the show.
Still, Mysterio's Royal Rumble win was special, and since he would win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time, that type of happy ending is always a good choice to finish off the first night of WrestleMania no matter what the year is. It would have been given more time than just nine minutes, too, which would have made it feel even more epic when the underdog won.
