What They Did Next: WWE 2021 Releases - Part 1
6. Chelsea Green
WWE reportedly had big plans for Chelsea Green in 2020. Her storylines on NXT were quickly wrapped up and she left programming to await her impending call-up to Raw. It never came.
At the time, Paul Heyman was executive director of the brand and, ever the student of the game, he saw something in Green that could reinvigorate the women's division. However, when Vince brought in Bruce Pritchard and Heyman was removed from the role, these plans were scrapped and Green was left in limbo.
In November of that year, Chelsea signed a brand new three-year contract with WWE and a push was planned for her on SmackDown Live. However, she broke her wrist during a Survivor Series qualifying match, and plans had to be changed on the fly. After months healing, Green was released from her contract early in the April firings.
On 11 July Chelsea showed up at Ring Of Honor Best In The World where she was booked to compete for the inaugural ROH Women's World Championship, but her still-injured wrist kept her from competing. She returned to the ring a week later at Impact Wrestling's Slammiversary alongside her fiancé Matt Cardona - and she's continued to appear for IMPACT since then, in addition to some appearances for the NWA.
