What They Did Next: WWE 2021 Releases - Part 1
12. Andrade
Sometimes, when a company drops the ball, they do so in such a spectacular way that everyone watching sees it playing out in horrifying slow motion before them. So it was with Andrade, a wrestler so talented that most promotions could build a brand around him. If he had any weakness, it was his limited English and this was covered by pairing him with Zelina Vega, who said as much for Andrade outside the ring as the former El Idolo did inside.
As Vega was opposed to the draconian demand that talents relinquish control of their social media accounts go WWE, she was fired in November of 2020. Without a voice, creative had nothing for him and chose to remove him from television for months. In March 2021 Andrade asked for his release and, despite initial resistance, it was granted by the end of the month.
Andrade next appeared on Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide's Rey de Reyes show where he challenged Kenny Omega for the AAA Mega Championship in a match that took place in August at Triplemania XXIX, and he has since been eagerly snatched up by AEW.
