What Wrestling Legends Really Think Of AEW

Triple H, your writer has noticed, has developed a tactic with which to tacitly bury AEW.

He's always going to do it, let's be real: he's a career politician, and they are his direct competition. But it's apparent, it's quite irritating, and the backhanded compliment is about as subtle as his WrestleMania ring entrance.

He most recently used said tactic during this month's investor conference call. "It's very exciting and it's fresh, and there's some interest in it, certainly," he said of AEW. "We have a very long track record of doing this incredibly successfully for many, many, many years, and we will continue to do so," he continued.

The implication is that AEW is a novelty, is popular in large part simply because it is new, and WWE will win in the end, just like they always do.

He also said something to this effect back in April - the very nature of the argument means he can't really get away with it much longer, surely - when he told Sports Illustrated that he's interested in the "long-term game". "If it's a flash and it's exciting at first and you can't maintain it, then it loses that pizzazz," he said, as if the war between AEW and NXT is based simply on the respective age of each product. As if AEW is a fruit and NXT is a canned good.

Papa Haitch is currently running the marathon at the same pace as Sir Tom Moore.
