Why Everyone Is Wrong About THIS WrestleMania 39 Car Crash

Brock Lesnar

For starters, let’s establish that the Brock Lesnar formula is played out. It’s been a great 11-year run, but there’s become a cheat code to Brock matches of spammed finisher sprints against a select few individuals. Quite simply for Lesnar: he gets a payday per minute worked that would make your head hurt.

And while that’s good for Brock, it’s not good for the wrestling product. When you see a Lesnar match against Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley, Cain Velasquez, Seth Rollins or whomever stands in his way, you know you’re most likely getting an aggressive sprint of both men throwing each other around and swinging for the fences from the bell. There’s no nuance, no big strategy, just big meaty men slapping meat.

While that can make for a highly entertaining car crash itself, when you’ve seen it five or six times, the return on investment of seeing guys kicking out of each other’s finisher for five minutes diminishes quickly.

That’s not to say that Paul Heyman should scrap the formula for good, but it would be advisable to mix in a few new approaches and offer a variety. Brock has always been at his most interesting when he’s facing a variety of opponents. Think about his matches against AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan. Those were fun styles clashes (pun intended) that gave us something different.

Lately though, not so much.
