Why THIS Is The Biggest Star WWE Must NEVER Push

Jey Uso Cody Rhodes
WWE

Jey Uso's character, beyond just how much his single-word catchphrase and associated arm movement has become a phenomenon, is that he is a good dude.

A man that was inadvertently trapped in an abusive bond with Roman Reigns until he was eventually empowered with the bravery to walk away and did just that. Having fronted up to his oppressor only to be betrayed by his brother when the Undisputed WWE Championship was within his grasp, he was then brave enough to abandon everything he'd held dear and forge his own path through a locker room that hated him for all the sins he'd committed when locked within the walls of his Bloodline loyalty. He had one friend on Monday Nights. Cody Rhodes was big enough to forgive him for his prior misdeeds, and influential enough to give him space from having to fight his brother.

'The American Nightmare' knew only too well of the ties that bind in a business with more than one royal family, and also knew how key it was to his own quest to bring down Roman's empire to have one of his former soldiers by his side. Their mutually beneficial relationship bore other fruits too. The pair briefly became Tag Team Champions in a reign which existed mostly to test and prove their bond, but in doing so revealed an earnest (and hilarious) friendship the two had rapidly forged. Good dudes recognising good dudes and wanting to do more good, their win over The Judgment Day at Fastlane may have represented the peak of a period defined by the purple-clad heels trying to run roughshod over Monday Night Raw against a Rhodes character proving himself a leader of men on a weekly basis.

Having served in the trenches together in 2023, Jey was with Cody up to and including his big moment. Serving as one of Rhodes' "avengers" in the epic 'Show Of Shows' main event, he rocked up to spear Jimmy off the stage through some tables in a spot and moment ten times as electrifying as any of the six million superkicks they threw in their interminable bore of a match. From ally to partner to friend, Uso had shown the same support to Cody as he once had to Reigns, but their dynamic was one of trust and support rather than terror and guilt. To this point, Jey can't cash in on Cody. The method of winning the title is heelish enough without it taking place between two best friends, but this one in particular would be a knife in the back and the front.

Even with advanced warning, it just wouldn't feel all that nice in the modern babyface-heavy WWE. And more's the point, Rhodes would just win, and probably with relative ease. Uso's then stuck as the man with another failed title shot and carrying the anchor of being a guy that blew a golden opportunity.

It doesn't have to be this way though. Not anymore. Jey Uso's a man that deserves it all, and that briefcase can still give him it.
