Why WWE Fans Love Sheamus Now

It simply mustn’t be understated what an incredible achievement Sheamus’ current upturn in momentum is.

Cody Rhodes popularised the idea of going from undeniable to undesirable in pro wrestling, but he had to form-then-leave an opposing organisation to do it. Sheamus, miraculously, ran the hardest of hard yards in one creatively bankrupt place to eventually and deservedly reach the same point.

As of late-2022, 13 long years after WWE told you he was ready, he’s simply showing you with iconic aplomb. He’s promising bangers, brawling and bravery, delivering all three, and pairing experience with an extremely subtle vulnerability only a veteran dare flex. Sheamus is a WWE fan’s new favourite wrestler not just because he’s discovered something new, but because he’s at long last being given license to be all the things that make him his best self.

Win or lose as a title challenger or prospective main eventer one last time in the months to come, it’s almost irrelevant. Sheamus is proof-of-concept of Triple H’s booking for wrestlers old and new. Brand new star or company mainstay, you’ve still got a fighting chance. Especially if you fight as well Sheamus. Vindication in the middle of culture war for ‘The Game’, and an overdue case of reality at long last matching perception for ‘The Celtic Warrior’ himself. He loves the cuts, loves the bruises, loves the bumps and loves the brawls.

And we just love to see it.
