With the inaugural WWE Wrestlepalooza taking place this Saturday, WWE has been going hard in pushing this new Premium Live Event as a major, major deal.

Per Fightful Select, WWE has plans to make Wrestlepalooza a big-name annual PLE moving forward. In fact, the positioning and promotion of Wrestlepalooza actually have some ties to WrestleMania.

With WrestleMania 43 now confirmed to be heading to Saudi Arabia, that announcement followed rumblings that, should 'Mania go to Saudi, WWE could opt to run two WrestleManias that particular year. For Saudi Arabia, they would get something in the shape of a 'Super' WrestleMania, whilst North America would get a regular WrestleMania. However, the Saudi Arabian government made it clear that they wanted the WrestleMania, which in turn ruled out the possibility of two of these PLEs running in a calendar year.

As such, Fightful reports that this was part of the reason why WWE has gone so heavy in pushing the branding of Wrestlepalooza as a big event, with the Wrestlepalooza PLE viewed as something that can help fill the gaps as a major show for any further years where the Showcase of the Immortals takes place outside North America.

Of course, as well as that, this first WWE Wrestlepalooza is being treated as a huge deal due to the simple fact that it's WWE's PLE debut on ESPN, not to mention the small matter of taking place on the same day as AEW All Out.

As for the Wrestlepalooza name itself, this was obviously taken from the old ECW Wrestlepalooza shows of the '90s, and a WWE source told Fightful that they believed Nick Khan was the person behind bringing this name back, with Khan famously a big ECW fan.
