Why WWE Is Saving THIS Major Match For Roman Reigns

Update on a big-time match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Roman Reigns Drew McIntyre
WWE

If you were wondering why WWE isn't running Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania Backlash 2022 this Sunday (8 May), it's likely because the promotion is saving it for a bigger show.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that Reigns vs. McIntyre for the former's Undisputed WWE Universal Championship is still part of WWE's plans. While the date is uncertain, with the promotion seemingly yet to decide on one, company officials see it as a major match and are probably saving it for a fitting event.

WWE currently has the following premium live events scheduled for the months following WrestleMania Backlash:-

- Money in the Bank: 2 July

- SummerSlam: 30 July

- Clash at the Castle: 3 September

McIntyre recently spoke of his desire to face (and dethrone) Reigns at Clash at the Castle, which will be WWE's first stadium show in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992. Money in the Bank and SummerSlam are also due to be held in stadiums this year - and certainly qualify as major events regardless.

Rather than facing Roman one-on-one, Drew will team with RK-Bro to face Reigns and The Usos at WrestleMania Backlash.
