Why WWE Needs To Immediately Fix THIS Historic Mistake

While Demolition's first reign as Tag Team Champions came to an end at the hands of the Brain Busters - complete with an assist from Andre the Giant - on the July 1989 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event, that was far from the last time that Ax and Smash would hold company gold.

Interestingly, that initial run with the Tag Titles had seen Demolition turn babyface, with Mr. Fuji turning on the tandem in order to align himself with the Powers of Pain. With audiences starting to cheer the smashmouth no-nonsense offense of Ax and Smash, it was inevitable that an official babyface switch would be triggered at some point, and this change in character for the pair wasn't all that much of a change; Ax and Smash said and did the same things as before, but now they were saying and doing those things to heel tag teams.

Demolition would regain the Tag Team Titles from Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard on a November '89 edition of WWF Superstars, though it would only be 72 days later when Ax and Smash would drop those belts to Bobby Heenan's Colossal Connection of Andre and Haku.

Still, WrestleMania VI would see Demolition topple the Colossals, with that starting a third reign as Tag Team Champions that would eventually clock in at an impressive 148 days.
