Why WWE Needs To Immediately Fix THIS Historic Mistake

4. The Beginning Of The End

Two months after WrestleMania VI and their big win over the Colossal Connection, Demolition expanded its numbers from two to three.

With Ax and Smash starting to lean towards more heel mannerisms, Brian Adams was added to the group as Crush in order to cement a villainous turn for the team. In a kayfabe sense, this allowed Demolition to defend the Tag Team Championships under the famed Freebird Rule, and likewise the spare third man in any tag bout would often switch places with one of their cohorts in order to fool the referee. Sneaky, underhand, unfair stuff, no?

In reality, the addition of Adams was done due to concerns over Bill Eadie's health. The story goes, Eadie had such a bad reaction to shellfish that he ended up hospitalised. With Vince McMahon worried that this may become a recurring problem, he added Brian Adams to the group in order to cover for any potential Eadie absences and maintain Demolition as a regular presence on WWF television.

Crush was a fine fit for Demolition, but his role somewhat diluted what was so special about the pairing of Ax and Smash, much like how adding Droz to the Legion of Doom at one point took away from what made Animal and Hawk so great. Added to that, Bill Eadie was now 44 years of age and a 20-year career of heavy bumps of hectic travel had left him physically restricted in-ring.
