With John Cena Injured, How Will The Landscape Of The WWE Change?

3. CM Punk - Where Does The 'Best in the World' Fit Into The Picture?

The CM Punk and Paul Heyman saga is at currently at fever pitch. However disappointing it may be that Axel is the Intercontinental champion, at a time in which the once coveted championship has lost its legendary status (he has only defended the belt four times since claiming it back in June, and will not be defending it at Night of Champions either), this feud might just end at Night of Champions with a hellacious bang. Last month, at SummerSlam, CM Punk worked an instant classic with Brock Lesnar. The angle, which began at Money in the Bank in July with Heyman's betrayal of Punk, was one of the hottest story-lines of the summer. Lesnar would come out victorious in an engaging match, which saw Paul Heyman involving himself in a way only Paul Heyman can. With Brock Lesnar's contract entailing high-profile matches, but sporadic appearances, you can bet it will be a while before we see his return to the ring. Quite clearly, as a result of Lesnar's victory at SummerSlam, Punk has some unsettled business with Paul Heyman, which has carried the angle on, with Curtis Axel replacing Lesnar as Punk's in-ring opponent. Unlike Lesnar, Axel, who has shown his potential of late, has not won over the fans just yet. Despite holding a championship and being a 'Heyman Guy', Axel needs this feud more than Punk or Heyman. A solid performance in the two-on-on handicap match at Night of Champions could be the platform that propels Axel's career. Punk is brilliant in the ring with just about everyone he has faced, and the recent matches between himself and Axel have proved Axel's worth. Be sure to check out Night of Champions to see how it may all end between CM Punk and Paul Heyman. One thing's for sure: it won't be a clean finish. Looking beyond the Punk-Heyman angle, how will the WWE utilise Punk in the bigger picture? Do the McMahon's have Punk in mind for a future WWE title shot? Or will Punk work an angle with a top heel going into WrestleMania? It seems logical that Punk would be a candidate to clash with The Corporation at some point over the next few months. It may even see Heyman side with The Corporation and have them work their angle from there. One particular rumour has me very excited indeed; a potential clash with Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania. If this becomes a reality, we will have a very happy WWE Universe.
