Everyone has their own scale of how much they care about Meltzer's (your writer is at a solid 3.25), but none can deny that it constitutes a valuable entry-level guide to great pro wrestling. If one has a bunch of five stars matches under their belt, there's very little chances of them being a total fraud.

Well, Manami Toyota has 13. That is more five-star matches than Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle or Bryan Danielson (at least for now). Given their similar in-ring mastery and god-like aura, allow me to paraphrase what I had written about Mitsuharu Misawa in the men's version of this list: Toyota is "the standout wrestler in the standout period of what many consider to be the best form of [women's ] pro wrestling".

Charisma, technique, strength, agility, pace, stamina (she was accustomed to 30 min. plus matches), narrative abilities, impeccable selling, elegance in execution... Toyota was the whole package, with the nice wrapping and bow on top of it. She might simply be the best woman wrestler there ever was.
