The former Kana played a big role in the revitalization of Joshi puro in the 2010s. While her recent claim that Stardom was created "to defeat her" is debatable, no one can deny she was the scene's biggest heel at the turn of the decade. Her stiff intergender matches, layered character work and promotional tactics (i.e. her infamous manifesto) generated more buzz around Joshi than there had been for years. She was basically CM Punk; a great worker, but above all a terrific self-advocate, an ego too strong to be denied, a polarizing figure among the media and her peers due to her uncompromising attitude.
This rogue aspect of her personality vanished in America. In terms of accomplishments, it would not be unmerited to compare her to Antonio Inoki: both were the first Japanese wrestlers to win a world title in WWE for their respective sexes (even if Inoki's reign is not officially recognized), and Asuka helped popularize joshi to American audiences (and by extension world audiences) just like Inoki did back in the day for male puroresu.
Flourishing beyond expectations in WWE, Asuka's career highlights include a two-year undefeated streak, winning the inaugural women's Royal Rumble, as well as multiple individual and tag titles.
