WrestleMania 31: 8 Reasons Interest Is At An All-Time Low
5 There Are No Stakes In The Sting/Triple H Match
For all they've done to make this a battle between WWE and WCW over the dangers of unchecked authority run amok, is there anything to it other than just being a wrestling match? The story here is Sting is a vigilante who is disgusted with Triple H - a man clearly drunk with power - and is here to deliver some justice via baseball bats and scorpion deathdrops. This match doesn't have a foregone conclusion (which is a huge positive), but so what if Sting wins? Let's say that The Icon goes out and pulls out a big win over the Authority's head honcho. Then what happens? They've added no stipulation to the match that says should Sting win Triple H and his cronies are removed from power. And even if they did, WWE has already shown their fans that something like that holds very little weight anyway, as the "Authority has been removed from power" angle from Survivor Series was reversed in less than two months. What is our reason to be invested, then? It isn't for match quality, because it's doubtful anyone expects the bout to be a workrate clinic. But if Sting's entire mission is to stop Triple H's reign of terror, what happens to his credibility when Hunter and Stephanie are back on Raw the following night like the match never took place? And they've given us zero reason not to think that's exactly what will happen.
