WrestleMania 31: 8 Reasons Interest Is At An All-Time Low

4. They've Ruined The Randy Orton Angle

The storyline between Randy Orton and Seth Rollins was perhaps the easiest story to write out of all those going into Mania, and it may be the one they've botched the most significantly. When Orton left to go film his soon-to-be-flop WWE film, he was on fire and the crowds were rabid for his turn on The Authority. He'd been subservient to Hunter and Stephanie since SummerSlam 2013 and it appeared as if he'd had enough and was ready to explode. There was some bad timing at play seeing as he was taken off TV right at the time the "RKO Outta Nowhere!" meme was all over the internet, but he should have been brought back right where he was when he left, and then based the coming weeks around his quest to get his hands on the slimy Rollins. Instead he returned into The Authority's fold and went back to being a lackey for a few weeks until he finally snapped. The resulting beatdown was so brutal and drawn out that it actually shifted some sympathy toward Rollins and got a muted reaction beyond the trademark Orton spots. Creative had an easy, standard wrestling 101 story that the fans were hot for sitting in the palm of their hands and they overcomplicated it to the point that it's become a convoluted mess.
