WrestleMania 31 Spoilers: 10 Things That Won't Happen Tonight

6. Rusev Retains The United States Championship

The United States champion Rusev has been the most dominating force in World Wrestling Entertainment over the last year, barring only Brock Lesnar. Unbeaten in singles competition, he has spent the last 12 months defeating former heavyweight champions the likes of Jack Swagger, Sheamus, Mark Henry and Big Show, all the while establishing himself as one of the most successful Superstars to transition from NXT to the main roster. As he compiled victory after victory, it became clear that he was being groomed for a rivalry with WWE's franchise player, John Cena. He was booked like an unconquerable villain, the type that would typically be built gradually overtime, becoming more and more indestructible before an epic showdown with the top superhero. Cena is that superhero and like any good graphic novel, the good guy suffered a defeat (Fastlane) and must now learn from his mistakes if he is to defeat his rival. That will happen at WrestleMania when Rusev's championship reign comes to an end at the hands of the franchise star of Vince McMahon's promotion. The Bulgarian Brute losing will free him up to appear in less one-dimensional stories. With that winning streak behind him, WWE Creative will be forced to move on without that crutch, crafting new and intriguing stories or risk allowing him to descend into mediocrity, another tenant in the apartment from hell that is that WWE mid card.
