Shane McMahon vs. AJ Styles opened WrestleMania 33’s main card, and it set the show off to an explosive start. In just over 20 minutes, Styles strengthened his case as the best wrestler on the planet by doing everything in his power to make an ageing authority figure look like his equal. He and Shane blew everyone’s expectations out of the water, and while blighted by the unconvincing MMA exchanges, the match came-off incredibly well.

Shane always throws caution to the wind in these scenarios, and last night was no different. There wasn’t a massive leap like last year’s cell dive, but Shane brought back his coast-to-coast dropkick, missed an elbow drop through the announce table, and even attempted an audacious Shooting Star Press.

The missed SSP ultimately led to Shane’s demise, but it was a breathtaking spot. He might not be a great technical wrestler, but McMahon is one of the best stunt dummies in the business, and always ensures his singles matches finish with at least one great moment. The Styles match had several, and while it certainly could have benefited from an altered layout, nobody will forget it in a hurry.
