WrestleMania 33: 10 Best Moments

2. WrestleMania Gets Broken

WWE’s obsession with “making history” and creating “WrestleMania moments” often comes-off forced and contrived. These spots rarely come around organically, and the company’s tendency to shoehorn them in usually leaves fans rolling their eyes rather than leaping out of their seat. Fortunately, the Hardy Boyz’ long-awaited comeback was the polar opposite of this, and really couldn’t have been booked any better.

The New Day strolled onto the stage ahead of the Raw Tag Team Championship Ladder Match. Having shed their Final Fantasy-inspired outfits, the trio looked ready to fight, and when they announced that a fourth team had been added to the match, they heavily implied it’d be them. Fortunately, it wasn’t: the Hardys’ old theme hit, the crowd erupted, and for the first time since 2009, they worked a WWE tag match together.

The ensuing match harked back to the Hardys’ old classics with Edge & Christian and the Dudley Boyz, and produced one of the most ludicrously dangerous Swanton Bombs of Jeff’s career. The Hardy’s eventual victory was glorious, and an example of WWE reading their audience to perfection, and delivering exactly what they wanted. Broken or not, the Hardy’s grand return breathtaking.
